Oral Hygiene 101 - Things to Know

Not doing good oral cleaning suggests plaque within your mouth. Cavity enducing plaque is a bacteria-containing sticky substance that commonly cause gingivitis and cavities. Gum disease or periodontal disease is likely to be a result of untreated plaque. Thankfully, these dental issues can be easily prevented. All that's necessary to accomplish is to observe every day good oral cleaning and reduce sweet foods intake.

Harmful acids usually form in your mouth when appropriate dental hygiene is not maintained. Once you consume bread, cereal and crackers, acids would develop in your mouth and if you have no proper dental hygiene, you will get problems at some point. Irritation, redness and bleeding in gums are common in people with plaque, which could eventually result in gum disease if not addressed. The teeth will likely get loose if your gum has problems, which will force you to have your teeth taken out for good. The good news is, daily brushing and regular flossing can keep you away from oral problems. Experts suggest two times a day brushing using soft-bristled toothbrush.

Help fight cavities by using a toothpaste that is developed for them. Fluoride and antimicrobial ingredients are often present in toothpaste that can combat teeth cavities. Together with regular brushing, interdental cleaners or dental floss can clean places in between teeth, which are typically tough to reach by toothbrushes. You need to concentrate not just on outer surface of your teeth but also in inner areas. Brush your tongue as gentle as possible to remove bacteria and to ensure fresh breath. An eighteen inches of floss is a good length to use by twisting it around the middle fingers of your two hands. Rub the dental floss between your teeth.

Brushing and flossing the teeth to completely clean your mouth will be best if backed with mouth rinse. Anti-microbial mouth rinse can significantly help in lowering bacteria and plaque activity. Mouth rinse also a good support to battle tooth decay. However, using dental products without the approval from dentist is not advisable. Not all oral items are suitable for your current condition. Some dental products are not recommended for particular age groups. For instance, children six years of age and below are not advised to use fluoride rinses because they might swallow a few amount, which is bad for them.
